- Fill
the dishwasher and the washing machine
to the optimum load. You can save up
to 40 litres of water per load.
- Did
you know that a simple dripping tap
wastes more than 90 litres a week? Make
sure they are properly turned off after
using them.
- If
you need to throw water away, never
do it in a dry area: make use of it
to water plants or gardens.
- Don't
use the washing machine with half loads.
Every time you use it, it takes an average
of 95 litres - and a full load uses
less than two half loads.
- If
you are going to buy a washing machine,
look for one with "GREEN PRODUCT" specifications
because it will allow you to save electricity
as well as water.
- Every
time you cook hard-boiled eggs, save
the water to water plants. They will
benefit from the nutrients freed from
the shells.
- Keeping
a bottle of cold water in the fridge
avoids having to let a bit of water
run every time you want cold water from
the tap.
- Fill
a receptacle for washing fruit. If you
do it with the tap running you will
be using twice the water.
- Don't
use running water to defrost food either.
Take it out of the freezer the day before
or use the microwave.
- When
washing up, fill the bowl to clean the
dirty dishes with soap; to rinse, set
the pressure of the tap to what you
really need.
