Acosol

Sewerage, Wastewater & Sanitation services

We manage the sewer and stormwater drainage networks that convey wastewater to treatment facilities. These operations are essential for mitigating environmental pollution and protecting public health. Acosol’s sanitation infrastructure extends across more than 90 km from Manilva to Torremolinos, linking directly to the seven wastewater treatment facilities under our management and maintenance.

Acosol S.A., a public utility owned by the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, manages the integrated water cycle services. In terms of sanitation, the company collects wastewater from municipal sewer networks along the coastal strip, stretching from the Benalmádena-Torremolinos border to the provincial boundary in Manilva. This water is conveyed through the regional sanitation network to local Wastewater Treatment Plants for purification and reclamation. The reclaimed water is then reused to irrigate golf courses and public green spaces, while any treated surplus is safely discharged into the sea through submarine outfalls. This process guarantees optimal conditions of quality, flow, distance, and depth for complete environmental dilution.

The Comprehensive Sanitation Plan for the Costa del Sol comprises seven distinct sectors, spanning from east to west as follows:

  • Benalmádena – Arroyo de la Miel
  • Fuengirola – Mijas
  • La Cala de Mijas
  • Arroyo de la Víbora – Marbella
  • San Pedro – Estepona
  • Manilva – Casares
  • Casares

Each sector operates as a distinct watershed, comprising main and secondary collectors, pumping stations, main pipelines to Wastewater Reclamation Plants (WWRP), reclaimed water distribution networks, and both land and submarine outfalls. Each of these wastewater treatment and reclamation plants holds the required Discharge Permit and reclaimed water reuse concession. Furthermore, all facilities fully comply with authorized discharge parameters and water quality standards for reuse.
