Acosol

Our mission

ACOSOL is responsible for managing the integrated water cycle—an essential process that guarantees the supply, sanitation, purification, and reuse of this vital resource across the Western Costa del Sol. Our operations encompass all necessary phases to ensure that water reaches the population in optimal condition and, once used, is efficiently and responsibly treated before being returned to the natural environment or reclaimed for reuse.

The cycle begins with raw water collection and treatment, ensuring a continuous, safe, and high-quality drinking water supply. “Subsequently, sanitation operations oversee the collection and transport of wastewater, preventing adverse environmental impacts and protecting public health.

A critical component of the cycle is wastewater treatment, where advanced technologies are applied to eliminate contaminants, ensuring the treated effluent complies with the most demanding regulatory and environmental standards. We remain committed to innovation and the continuous improvement of our infrastructure, maximizing resource utilization while minimizing energy consumption.

Additionally, we promote wastewater reclamation and reuse, primarily for irrigation and other non-potable applications. This strategy enables the closing of the water cycle, thereby reducing stress on natural water resources and promoting a model based on circular economy principles and long-term sustainability. In fact, the golf courses on the Western Costa del Sol have been irrigated with reclaimed water for more than 20 years.

Our activities are conducted under a strict commitment to environmental protection, integrating criteria of energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, and ecological preservation. Through sustainable water resource management, we actively support the regional development and conservation of a resource critical to both life and the future of the Costa del Sol.

Understanding the integrated water cycle

The integrated water cycle encompasses the collection, treatment, and distribution of drinking water, followed by the collection, purification, and reclamation of wastewater for reuse. This spans the entire water journey: from collection and treatment to public distribution, followed by environmental release into the sea or reclamation for irrigation and alternative uses.
