At Acosol, we work every day to ensure efficient and sustainable water management—an essential resource for life and the development of our community. Our advanced infrastructure and processes secure both the supply of drinking water and the reclamation and reuse of water, contributing to a more sustainable water model.
Through these initiatives, ACOSOL contributes to closing the water cycle, promoting more efficient, sustainable, and environmentally responsible water usage.
Our bulk water supply system drives the infrastructure and processes that transport water from natural sources to strategic storage points. This comprehensive system links water intake (the Fuengirola and Estepona wells, the Marbella Desalination Plant, and the La Concepción reservoir), specialized treatment at the Marbella Desalination Plant and the Río Verde Drinking Water Treatment Plant, and long-distance transmission through large-scale pipelines across the Western Costa del Sol. Ultimately, it is the vital network that guarantees a reliable water supply to every city and town in the region.
The low-pressure network delivers water directly from municipal reservoirs, connected to our main high-pressure supply, to homes, businesses, and industries. This includes the urban distribution network, connections, meters, and pressure regulation systems It ensures that every consumer receives water with the required volume, quality, and pressure. Acosol is the public utility company managing low-pressure water supply across Mijas, Casares, Istán, Ojén, and parts of Marbella.
Wastewater treatment involves removing contaminants from brown water before returning it to the natural environment. This process takes place at wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), where physical, chemical, and biological processes are applied to reduce the pollutant load and minimize environmental impact.
Sanitation infrastructure centers on the networks that collect and convey wastewater generated by households, industries, and urban areas. We manage the sewer and stormwater drainage networks that convey wastewater to treatment facilities. These operations are essential for mitigating environmental pollution and protecting public health. Acosol’s sanitation infrastructure extends across more than 90 km from Manilva to Torremolinos, linking directly to the seven wastewater treatment facilities under our management and maintenance.
Ultimately, wastewater recycling adds a crucial step to repurpose treated water for agriculture, industry, or landscaping. This process maximizes water resources and promotes sustainable water resources management, especially water-scarce areas.
This data shows current water resources and improves our understanding of local water availability.
