Sustainability

Digital Transformation Plan

La transformación digital es un elemento clave en la estrategia de sostenibilidad de Acosol. The company has advanced remote control and monitoring systems that allow for real-time supervision of its infrastructure operations.

Thanks to these tools, it achieves the following:

  • Optimized energy consumption based on demand
  • Anticipated incident response and improved response capacity
  • Increased operational efficiency
  • Guaranteed service quality
  • Immediate detection of incidents
  • Reduced water loss and leakage

Techlologic innovation becomes a basic tool for sustainability

In this context, the entity actively participates in the PRTE for Digitalization of the Water Cycle, an initiative promoted by the Government of Spain within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

The integration of Acosol into this strategic program allows the development of projects aimed at the technological modernization of the integral water cycle in the municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, through the incorporation of advanced digital solutions for the management of hydraulic infrastructures.

Actions within the framework of PRTE

Through its participation in the PRTE, Acosol is promoting a set of actions aimed at improving operational efficiency, optimizing the use of resources and strengthening the sustainability of the hydraulic system.

The main lines of action include:

  • Implementation of advanced remote control and real-time monitoring systems for water supply and sanitation networks
  • Digitalización de infraestructuras clave, incluyendo estaciones depuradoras, bombeos y depósitos reguladores
  • Development of data analysis tools for optimizing energy consumption
  • Early leak detection and network loss control systems
  • Improved traceability and water quality throughout the entire cycle.

These actions allow for more precise and proactive management, reducing inefficiencies and improving the ability to respond to incidents.

Modernization and improvement of infrastructure

Acosol is carrying out an ambitious modernization process of its hydraulic infrastructure, with the aim of improving its efficiency, operational capacity and environmental sustainability.

Among the most relevant actions are:

  • Energy efficiency improvement projects at the Marbella desalination plant
  • Renewal of treatment systems in wastewater treatment plants
  • Optimization of water supply and sanitation networks
  • Actions to reduce losses and improve hydraulic performance

These investments allow the facilities to be adapted to new regulatory and environmental requirements, as well as responding effectively to growing demand and water scarcity scenarios.

Thanks to the investments made in this infrastructure (including actions promoted by the Junta de Andalucía) the plant has reached a production capacity of up to 20 hm³ per year, which allows it to cover between 15% and 20% of the water demand of the Western Costa del Sol.

Esta capacidad resulta especialmente estratégica en periodos de sequía, complementando otras fuentes de abastecimiento como el embalse de La Concepción o los recursos subterráneos.

Technological innovation at the service of sustainability

Digital transformation is one of Acosol’s strategic cornerstones for moving towards a more efficient, sustainable and resilient management model.
The use of smart technologies allows:

  • Adjust the operation of the facilities according to the actual demand
  • Reduce energy consumption associated with pumping and treatment processes
  • Minimize water losses in distribution networks
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

In this way, technological innovation is fully integrated into the entity’s energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction strategy.

Through infrastructure modernization, process digitization and energy optimization, the entity is moving towards a more sustainable water management model, while guaranteeing the quality and security of supply in the municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol.
